Heat Treatment

Welding operation induces stresses in heavy structural/equipment parts. The bigger and more complex the part, the more the stresses will arise. These stresses can cause distortions in the part unless relieved thru’ predetermined cycles of heating, holding & cooling.

1.Heavy Engineering Workshop (HEW) is equipped with a Bogie Hearth type Stress Relieving Furnace to cater for up to 3.5 M x 3.5 M x 12.0 M size, and Load of 30T. It is oil fired, having range of operational temperature up to 1200˚C and an automatic temperature controlling facility equipped with microprocessor based Data Logger recorder and 12 nos. of K-type thermocouples. This furnace allows big equipment like Hydro-mechanical equipment, Pressure Vessels and other major vital equipment to be relieved of stresses developed during manufacturing stages.

In case such fabricated structures/equipment is larger than what could be accommodated in the above furnace, we resort to local stress relieving thru’ heating electrical coils along the welded joints carried out by external experts in this line.
